What is an Online Space Camp?

We are introducing the concept of an online space camp where you will participate in occasional lecture series on various topics related to space exploration by scientists and engineers. During the space camp, students will learn rocket science concepts in a fun and interactive way while performing simulations of analog missions, and students will get to be analog astronauts. They will have their hands dirty on various science experiments while collaborating with their fellow crew members. They will experience how astronaut selection is done, what they wear in space, how they eat, how they make decisions, and how they do science! Space is the final frontier and we would like to educate the next generation because you are the next space generation.

What is an analog mission?

Analog missions are conducted on the Earth where field locations meet similarities to the extreme space environment such as Antarctica, Arctic, deserts, and volcanic areas. Professional scientists and engineers work closely with government organizations, universities, and industries to perform simulated space research and gather useful science data. Usually, these missions are from a month to year-long depending on the mission goals.

Abstract Surface

What is an analog astronaut?

Analog astronauts are industry professionals who participate in analog missions in an isolated environment to perform research.

Is this space camp conducting an actual analog mission? Will you be an actual analog astronaut?

No. You won’t be able to perform actual analog missions, neither will you get any certification of an analog astronaut. Under this space camp, you will get introduced to these concepts while performing some science experiments and activities like analog astronauts. It is not possible to conduct such a mission for young students and take them to these extreme environments for safety reasons. You will be attending this space camp while being at your home and will do safe science experiments under the supervision of mentors on call and your parents at home.
